Kindergarten Christmas Baking Party!

For our Christmas party this year, we spent the day doing crafts and baking!  We decorated cookies with our awesome lunch ladies, Mrs. Kamm and Mrs. Faulkner, made gingerbread play dough, cooked pancakes, and dipped yummy pretzels and cookies into almond bark!  Every student was able to take home many goodies in their own Christmas bucket!

We ended our fun day by inviting parents to come in for a reader’s theater performance and to sample our treats!  We were thankful for the beautiful snow that day too!  Oh What Fun!

Indoor Field Trip LEGO Challenge

No tears were shed today over missing our field trip!  We stayed inside and out of the cold by building the ultimate Christmas village out of every single LEGO we had in our classroom!  I’m pretty sure they thought I had lost it when I dumped out all of the Lego bins in the center of the blue rug!  We collaborated on our community project, went shoeless, sang Christmas carols (and a few from Frozen 2) all while looking stylish in our elf glasses.  Even though the kids thought we played all-day, little did they know they were doing a STEM project, working on fine-motor skills, counting to be sure they had enough bricks, using language skills to communicate how to build and exercising their vocal chords.  😉

Friday Show and Tell

Friday during morning meeting we had our first show and tell!  Each student had a turn to share one item they brought from home or from the classroom.  After everyone had a chance to share, we spent some time moving around, checking out each other’s sharing and asking questions.

Celebrating World Kindness Day!

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”

~Saint Teresa of Calcutta

Kindergarten is spreading the love to our school by putting the “I” in KIND!  We spent November 13th celebrating World Kindness Day.  We want to share love just like Jesus and Mother Teresa did!  There is no act of kindness too small to be great!

Be sure to check out our board on your way into the cafeteria!

Happy Halloween 2019!

Happy All Hallows Eve (aka Happy Halloween)!  We had such a fun day of learning and partying in kindergarten!  We had many special visits in our classroom.  Our favorite was from the Minion!  In science, we learned about parts of the skeletal system.  Ask your child to tell you more about their skull and what it protects?  As a part of this, we cut out some of the “soft” parts of the face of a skeleton and folded it to make a fun mask.  In the afternoon we celebrated Halloween with a fun party that included games, crafts and yummy treats!  Thank you to our parent volunteers for helping at our party and for donating treats!

Walking Field Trip to Celebrate Community Helpers!

We enjoyed a chilly fall walk to the Hudson Public Library and Hudson Police Station last week!  The library put on a special story time for our group.  This included songs, a puppet show, and a cooking craft!  We also enjoyed some free time exploring the children’s section as well!

After our library visit, we met Officer Knepler for our tour of the police station.  As we walked through, we met other officers and learned what each department does each day.  We also climbed in a squad car and talked a lot about safety!  We ended our tour with donuts and goodies and sang happy birthday to James!

A special thanks to Officer Knepler (James’ dad) and children’s librarian, Shelley Tougas for facilitating such a wonderful field trip for us!  Kindergarten memories were made!

All Aboard! Osceola Railway Train Ride Adventure!

We had a wonderful time on our Osceola train ride!  Famous for being the very last train in North America to deliver mail by locomotive, this historical gem did not disappoint!  Our 90 minute adventure began in our own private dining car where we enjoyed our lunches, coloring activities and giant windows to enjoy all of the northern October fall colors!  Throughout the ride, many train conductors stopped by to give us more information about our ride and about the train.  One retired volunteer conductor said he rode this very same train to Montreal, Canada when he was a little boy!

Some highlights from the ride were getting to stand on the back of the caboose, crossing over the bridge on the St. Croix River, eating lunch on the train and seeing hidden waterfalls along the bluffs.  We are blessed with wonderful memories and friendships!  Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who came with us on our adventure!
