Future Leaders

The Future of the World is in this Classroom!   If you haven’t already checked out our classroom door for spring, here it is!  Each student created themselves as adults and wrote what they wanted to be when they grew up!  So cute!

We have also been working on a little in-class research project to go along with learning about the Fifty United States!  Each student chose a state to research.  To learn more, we made colorful posters.

Mardi Gras 2020

Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is the day before Ash Wednesday and also the day before we make our lenten sacrifices.  The tradition began during medieval times when food preservation/storage didn’t exist.  Food was eaten in excess the day before lent in order to get rid of anything they weren’t allowed to eat during the 40 day “fast.”  Mardi Gras is celebrated all over the world still today, with the most well known place being New Orleans in the US.

Mardi Gras is one of my favorite days of the year and something I celebrate annually with my family and my students!  We enjoyed our school day making crafts, working on themed activities in reading and math, making Mardi Gras-colored pancakes, and listening to New Orleans jazz!  We also had Spirit Family lunches where we met in our classroom to eat and made colorful masks!

Listening to Your Heart!

Our Mystery Science last week was all about the heart and what an incredible muscle it is!  We spent sometime listening and counting heartbeats on ourselves and on a partner.  We also counted resting heartbeats together and found our that we have a resting heart rate of about 45 beats per 30 seconds!  We logged our counting, used our fist to determine the size of our heart and made a special valentine!  What a “heartwarming” experience!

Puppy Therapy!

Last week we had a very special visit from Mrs. Wagner’s little dog, Choppa!  Choppa was a rescue dog from the Animal Humane Society six years ago and is one of the sweetest and most compassionate dogs you will ever meet!  Choppa recently lost his sister, an English Bulldog named Aggie.  Aggie and Choppa were inseparable and the loss has been very difficult for him.  He joined us for a day in kindergarten and the kids LOVED him!  We did a big lesson on empathy where we did some role playing on understanding feelings and emotions and what it can be like to walk in someone else’s shoes.  My students are very eager to have Choppa back, so we will try to have him visit once a week to read with kids, play and be a friend to listen too!

Catholic Schools Week 2020!

We had an AWESOME week celebrating Saint Patrick School!  We kicked off our 1st day with an assembly that involved some pretty cool animals from the Wildlife Science Center from Stacey,MN!  We met some amazing northern birds and learned a lot about some of our local wildlife!  Our CSW fundraiser of choice was to help Australia with their relief and rescue of animals affected by recent bush fires.  We raised money for Steve Irwin (the late Crocodile Hunter) and family’s Animal Hospital!  On Wacky and Wild Day, students brought in a stuffed animal for $1 to donate to this noble cause!  We raised over our $500 goal!

On Tuesday had some good old-fashioned fun bowling at the Hudson Bowling Alley!

On Wednesday we celebrated our faith by attending a special 4-Catholic Schools Mass with Bishop Powers at St. Bridget’s in River Falls!  It was a fun day and EVERYONE from our class was finally at school, so we took many group photos on this day!

On Thursday we celebrated by dressing up as our favorite super hero or storybook character in honor of watching our Drama Club’s performance of Little Red Robin Hood!  What fun!

Friday was a VERY special day, as we celebrated the ending of our big shape unit in math!  To celebrate, we had a “Shape” party with 2D and 3D shapes, manipulative, snacks and ice cream cones!  We ended our day cheering on the teachers and students in the gym at our annual teacher VS student volleyball game!  Mrs. Johnson and I love playing volleyball together!  The TEACHERS WON!  Our class made signs to cheer everyone on!

Innovation Station Winter Fun

Working in the winter!  We have been very busy this month learning all about polar animals, winter weather, learning how to use our new Chromebooks and having more adventures!  Our new Innovation Station has been a hit in our class, giving students the opportunity to learn and play on our light table and on Chromebooks.

New Year, New Room!

Happy New Year 2020!  To start our year off right, Mrs. Wagner rearranged our classroom and set up all of our new toys!  Some top favorites are the comfy floor table chairs (green and blue), the light table and ABC tubs!  My daughter Lillie helped in our classroom for a day and did some sensory foam painting with my students!  Look at those happy faces!

Christmas Concert 2019

What an awesome Christmas concert with our preschool, 4K and K students!  They are simply all so adorable!  My face hurt so much from smiling after the performance!  Mrs. Ashwood does such a wonderful job with them!

Just before Bingo, we celebrate something called La Posada.  This is a tradition where Mary (my daughter Sophie) and Joseph (Mrs. Abrahamson’s son Ryan) walk around to each classroom asking if we have any room?  We tell them “no” so they can get to the stable.  Shepherds and Angels visit us as well asking if we’ve seen Mary and Joseph.  We all head into the gym after we tell them to keep looking!
